Il presidente Muffley fa attaccare la base; Ripper si suicida; viene recuperato il codice per richiamare i bombardieri, ma il maggiore King Kong si rifiuta di rientrare alla base. Il consigliere militare del presidente, l’ex-nazista dottor Stranamore, elabora una strategia di sopravvivenza. La terra esplode. Un classico del cinema contro la guerra; Kubrick ha costruito un meccanismo perfetto, brutale ed esilarante, capace di trasformare l’angoscia in risata e viceversa. Straordinaria la performance di Peter Sellers, che interpreta il capitano inglese, il presidente degli Stati Uniti e il dottor Stranamore.
